| Yahoo Singles vs AFF. Yahoo Singles or Adult Friend Finder? Yahoo singles meet at the infamous personals section of their site every day. Yahoo singles services are an excellent database of "looking" individuals. Yahoo singles has been around for a while now... but. Yahoo singles isn't the biggest?!?!? It was news to us too. Yahoo singles falls into second place when put head to head against AFF. The friend finder networks, according to Alexa, have the most visited website in the industry! And why not, we ask, sheepishly admitting we should'a known it all along. We've been affiliated with them for years. We have always know they were the Cadillac, we just didn't know they were the biggest too. |

Yahoo Singles (YS) probably lost this fight because they aren't a true free service whereas AFF is. They also haven't
been around nearly as long (aff wears this crown too with a 1996 inception date). Additionally webmasters don't send them nearly as
much traffic because the affiliate program is not as good. (all this means for you is that aff will continue to grow faster unless
Y! fixes it). Not to mention nearly the entire swingers market shifted to AFF years ago because of their open welcome.

| Yahoo Singles (YS or YP as it is commonly called) is still a grand service, but of all the things I mentioned here, the free membership thing is the clincher. To be the biggest and the best you have to have the most members. AFF offers a true free membership and YP goes and tells you after signup you have to subscribe to participate. What can you do with a personals service that doesn't let you participate? Nothing, and it does seem a bit pointless to us. |
| AFF has three ways to be in their service - standard member (free) - silver and gold members (not free). The standard members can do all the same stuff just about - but not as often. They can send mail, read profiles, receive responses to their ads, but after so many, they have to come back tomorrow. This works fine for most, since you can do quite a lot before your number runs out for the day. Those that it annoys go ahead and sign up. It really is a reasonable and competitive membership fee too. They also (and this is practically unheard of on the internet) give members the ability to turn on or off the "AutoRenew" feature in their membership profile, so if they don't want auto billing (and who here hasn't been burned by that) they don't have to have it! |
